Rep. Jim Jordan has become a rising star of the Republican Party.
The Ohio Republican, seen as a staunch ally of President Trump, is an outspoken critic about the influence of big tech companies, and is viewed as a firebrand conservative. Jordan is ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, and his name recognition has floated him for possible consideration of a 2024 presidential ticket in some circles.
Jordan, 56, was first elected to the House in 2006, and is considered a safe bet to hold on to his seat serving Ohio’s conservative Fourth Congressional District, despite a challenge from Democrat Shannon Freshour.
Jordan has long been outwardly supportive of Trump, putting him in a handful of Republicans who have become loyalists to the president, despite more independent GOP lawmakers straying from Trump’s unconventional presidency.
He vehemently opposed the Democrat-led impeachment proceedings against Trump, and has vocally echoed Senate Republicans’ concerns over the business dealings of Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
Jordan also helped found the House Freedom Caucus, which consists of a small, but active voting bloc of Republican lawmakers who strongly advocate for limited government.
At his speech at the Republican National Convention in August, Jordan not only said Trump as the candidate who will preserve U.S. institutions, but painted a grim picture of the nation led by Democrats. His comments followed a summer of protests and riots that were first sparked by the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, who died at the hands of police.
“Democrats won’t let you go to church, but they’ll let you protest,” Jordan said. “Democrats won’t let you go to work, but they’ll let you riot. Democrats won’t let you go to school, but they’ll let you loot. President Trump has fought against their crazy ideas.”
