Authorities say a body was discovered after fire damaged a residence in a small town in Cortland County.
According to New York State Police, the blaze on Route 13 in the town of Cuyler was reported around 10 a.m. Monday. The scene is located near Crains Mills Road, northeast of the city of Cortland.
The Cuyler and Truxton fire departments initially responded to the call. Firefighters from other departments in Cortland and Madison counties assisted.
State police described the blaze as “suspicious” but did not elaborate. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation was being assisted by the Forensic Identification Unit and state fire investigators.
The identity of the person who was found dead inside the house was not immediately released by police.
