SIUE SAAC Contributes to Cougars As One Scholarship

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE’s Student-Athlete Advisor Committee (SAAC) has announced a contribution to SIUE’s Cougars As One Scholarship.

SIUE student-athletes raised the money by selling Black Lives Matter SIUE t-shirts on and off campus. They also organized a Walk for Social Justice on Sep. 26, 2020.

SAAC values the importance of striving for equal opportunities for all, and is dedicated to building a more inclusive culture here at SIUE. We want to donate the money to this fund to make sure that we are providing an inclusive environment where all individuals feel heard, seen and valued.

“I believe it is important to build a diverse culture here that is inclusive to all people,” said Farrah Young, Academic Advisor and SAAC co-sponsor. “SAAC stands up against racial injustices and wants to positively impact those around us. We stand unified as one.”

The purpose of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to support the mission of Athletics by providing a forum in which student-athletes and administrators can enhance the athletics experience at SIUE for the student-athletes, the campus community, and the community-at-large through the examination of mutual interests and concerns. The committee is comprised of a representative and an alternate representative from each athletic team and athletic administrators. This group of student-athletes meets monthly.

Established in February, the Cougars As One Scholarship offers student-athletes the opportunity to be an active participant in such change and utilize their platform to make a difference throughout and beyond the campus setting.

The CAO Scholarship was started thanks in part to a $25,000 gift endowment from Northwestern Mutual.
