Joe Biden won’t get impeached in wake of Afghanistan

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday frankly dismissed the notion that President Joe Biden could be impeached in the wake of America’s controversial withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“Well, look, the president’s not going to be removed from office,” he said during a visit to Pikeville. “It’s a Democratic House, a narrowly Democratic Senate. That’s not going to happen.”

His comments Wednesday came after some congressional Republicans suggested Biden should be impeached over his handling of the U.S. military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Taliban’s quick takeover.

Thirteen members of the military were killed last week in a bombing attack near an airport in Kabul, heightening the political tensions.

Biden has defended his decision to end America’s 20-year war, and McConnell has sharply criticized the president’s removal of all troops from Afghanistan as well as how he has handled the ensuing fallout.
