Coronavirus Live News Updates: 6 states, UTs administer 1st Covid vaccine dose to 100% of adult population


All adult people in Sikkim, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Ladakh and Lakshadweep have received at least one dose of Covid vaccine as the cumulative jabs administered in the country crossed 74 crore on Sunday, the Union Health Ministry said. Around 50,25,159 vaccine doses have been administered till 8 pm on Sunday, according to data from the CoWIN portal.

Karnataka CM inaugurates 120 advanced life support ambulances

  • Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday inaugurated 120 advanced life support ambulances which have been added under the Arogya Kavacha-108 (Emergency Medical Services) in Bengaluru.
  • Speaking to ANI, the Chief Minister said, “We are strengthing the health infrastructure at local and taluka levels. With all the facilities and upgrading of centres at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs), we have decided to add more numbers of ambulances to increase the reach.”
  • The Arogya Kavacha scheme, originally introduced by the previous CM B S Yediyurappa, will be given a further facelift, the state’s Health Minister K Sudhakar said.

CBI arrests 11 accused in cases related to violence and other offences in West Bengal, reports ET Bureau

CBI has arrested 11 accused ( Seven on 12.09.2021 and four on 11.09.2021) in ongoing investigation of two separate cases related to violence and other offences in West Bengal. CBI had registered these cases on the orders of High Court of Calcutta and taken over the investigation of the cases earlier registered by the State Police. Oxygen therapy may put a brake on Alzheimer’s: Study

  • Oxygen therapy halted the build-up of plaque on the brain — a key characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease, in a mice model, as per a novel study.
  • The study, by scientists at Tel Aviv University in Israel, showed that breathing pure oxygen for some time in a pressurised — or hyperbaric — chamber can boost the functioning of the human brain. In animals, the therapy helped fight the build-up of brain plaque, the Times of Israel reported.
  • “I don’t think this can ‘cure’ Alzheimer’s in humans, but it may be able to significantly slow its progression and severity,” lead author Professor Uri Ashery from the varsity’s Sagol School of Neuroscience, was quoted as saying.
  • “Further studies are needed, but people could possibly start benefiting from this in just a few years,” Ashery added.
