Celebrities including Cher, Jameela Jamil, Rosanna Arquette and Kathy Griffin have shared their anger and frustration amid suggestion Roe v Wade is to be overturned.

This morning it was suggested the US Supreme Court could be about to overturn the nationwide legal right to abortion in the US, according to a leaked document.

Today millions were left stunned after a document labelled ‘Opinion of the Court’ allegedly showed a majority of the court’s justices backed striking down Roe v Wade, the landmark 1973 case that legalised the procedure.

The document, reportedly created earlier this year, essentially states there is no constitutional right to abortion services and would allow individual states to more heavily regulate or outright ban the termination of pregnancies, which has understandably riled up the masses.

It is unclear if the draft opinion would mark the court’s final word on the issue and a Supreme Court spokeswoman refused to comment.

In response to the leaked documents, stars flocked to social media and shared their rage with many fearing for the safety of those who may want to access safe abortion services in the US.

Cher took her caps lock button to town and wrote on Tuesday morning: ‘REPUBLICANS MAY HAVE FINALLY GOTTEN THEIR WISH.AFTER 49 YRS GOP SUPREME COURT POISED 2 STRIKE DOWN ROE V WADE.

‘MY MOM SAID,”WHEN I WAS YOUNG,I HEARD, “KEEP EM BAREFOOT & PREGNANT,”A WOMANS PLACE IS IN THE HOME”,
“WOMEN DONT HAVE 🧠’S 4 BUSINESS”. DEATH DUE 2 BACK ALLY ABORTION’.

Actress Yvette Nicole Brown slammed those who were angry at the decision but who may have voted for Trump: ‘If you are upset that #RoeVWade is about to be overturned by the Supreme Court but you didn’t vote in 2016 or you voted for Trump because you didn’t like the smart lady, YOU did this w/your apathy or your decision to choose an imp for President. YOU gave him THREE SCOTUS seats.’

In response to an Instagram post from Planned Parenthood Action, encouraging people to ‘stand up and fight’, Jameela Jamil wrote: ‘What the f**k is happening?’

Sharing a quote from Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the Good Place actor went on to add: ‘This of course applies to people of all genders who can become pregnant.

‘But because for almost all of history we have looked at this as a woman’s issue only, we have treated it with the same disregard, nay hatred as all women’s issues. Because the patriarchy hates women, because they fear women.

‘Remember that right below the deep misogyny of wanting to control women’s lives, is the immense classism that ensures that the privileged will still have options to fly to other countries to take control of their bodies.

‘People with uteruses who do not have money, many of whom are also POC, will not have these safe alternatives. They will take life risking/ending measures to take back their bodies. Or they will be forced into pregnancy, birth, parenthood or the pain of having to give your child away because you weren’t ready/didn’t want a baby/couldn’t afford to raise a child in a country that hates and abandons humans as soon as they are born. They are only sacred inside the womb. Once out, the are an opportunity or a problem.’

She added: ‘I’m so sorry. I’m so disgusted. We have time to turn this around. But we need to get motivated politically. Stop screaming at the wrong people. Start organizing to put the right people in place to protect us from the ACTUAL bad people threatening the freedom of HALF THE COUNTRY. [sic]’

Comedian Kathy Griffin shared an image of Hillary Clinton at last night’s Met Gala, writing: ‘Roe v Wade has been overturned. Yes I know. Stay in my lane.

‘Well I’d love to be posting about the met gala but this is the only attendee I care about. President Hillary Clinton never would’ve let Roe be overturned.’

Their sentiments were echoed by Star Trek actor George Takei, who fumed: ‘Those motherf*****s really did it. First they came for Black voters, then they targeted LGBTQ+ families. Now, women of America, they’re overruling Roe v. Wade.

‘We have to unite and strike back. Take to the streets. Overwhelm them at the ballot box. They have gone too damn far.’

Even Gary Lineker was sharing his outrage, penning on Twitter: ‘Women should decide on what’s right for women, not men. #RoeVWade.’

It comes after Political news outlet first published the paper, although Metro.co.uk was unable to verify its authenticity.

Former US Secretary of State Clinton has warned, if true, it would be a ‘direct assault on the dignity, rights, and lives of women, not to mention decades of settled law’.

‘It will kill and subjugate women even as a vast majority of Americans think abortion should be legal’, she said. ‘What an utter disgrace.’

The draft opinion was said to be made in reference to a case named Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organisation, which challenges Mississippi’s ban on abortion after 15 weeks.

‘Roe was egregiously wrong from the start’, it reads. ‘We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled.’

It goes on to reference the 1992 case Planned Parenthood v Casey which affirmed Roe’s finding of a constitutional right to abortion services, but allowed states to place some constraints on the practice.

The document adds: ’It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.’

The Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organisation before its term is up in late June or early July.
