Man Points Gun At News Crew During A Live Segment On Gun Violence

A man was seen allegedly pointing a gun at a TV news crew during a live segment on gun violence in Chicago, US, on Wednesday morning.

The shocking incident took place when reporter Joanie Lum of the Fox 32 Chicago was live on air delivering a segment about the city’s rising gun violence problem. The man walked behind her and appeared to pull out what looked like a small handgun, pointing it directly at the camera, Fox News reported.

He remained in view of the camera as he continued down the street, still holding the firearm.

Chicago police consider the man a “person of interest” and are searching for him, the news station reported.

Concerned viewers phone the station to check up on the crew.

“Thank you to the viewers who were watching Good Day Chicago and called or emailed to make sure our crew was okay,” the news station said.

In a tweet, fellow FOX 32 reporter Anita Padilla said that Lum was shaken after the incident.

“The gun was one foot from her head as he pointed at the camera or cameraman Gary. She is understandably shaken. Thank God she is okay,” Padilla tweeted.

The incident occurred while Lum was reporting about Chicago’s growing gun violence problem, a menace that has left America reeling, particular after two deadly mass shootings in just the past two weeks.

Chicago has been witnessing gang-fueled gun violence. Last week, two people were killed and seven were wounded in a mass shooting near the city’s famed Magnificent Mile, the New York Post reported.

The US has been in shock in recent days following Tuesday’s mass shooting at a Texas elementary school, which left 19 school children and two teachers dead.
