Paramount-owned cable network Showtime has announced a new five-part documentary series, The Lincoln Project, which follows the members of the titular U.S. political group during the 2020 presidential election and its aftermath.

The series is set to premiere on October 7, with back-to-back episodes airing each Friday. All five episodes will also drop on demand and on streaming platforms on October 7.

Directed by actor, producer and filmmaker Fisher Stevens (Dirty Money, Before the Flood) and Karim Amer (The Vow, The Great Hack), the series tracks the group of former Republican operatives and strategists that formed in the wake of Donald Trump’s 2016 election, and became the fastest-growing super PAC in the U.S. with its goal of “saving democracy” by “defeating Trumpism.”

Although the group became best-known for its scathing attack ads and biting social media commentary directed against its own party’s sitting president, the documentary also reveals how it utilized sophisticated data analytics and voter-targeting operations in the lead-up to the 2020 election. Yet even as the group sought to make things unpleasant for the Trump administration, its own ranks were shaken by internal upheaval, a sexual harassment scandal and an ensuing wave of negative press.

“Like the best verité documentary journeys, we had no idea where this story would take us, and we hope in presenting this all-American tale of redemption, power, and betrayals, that viewers can be entertained and galvanized to be more active in protecting the foundations of American democracy at a time when it is more fragile than ever,” Stevens and Amer said in a news release.

The Lincoln Project is produced for Showtime by The Othrs in association with Bloomfish Productions. Producers are Alexander Hyde, Mikaela Beardsley, Allison Berg, Judy Korin and Amy Redford. Executive producers are Karim Amer, Fisher Stevens, Geralyn White Dreyfous, Lyn Davis Lear, Vijay Vaidyanathan and Jamie Wolf. Fremantle is distributing the series internationally.
