Queen Elizabeth’s death has come as a shock and has also become the biggest event in the world at the moment. Famous and influential people across the globe have been arriving in London to show their last respects to the now deceased Queen.
However, amid all the events, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, has been getting a lot of attention—and this is mostly for his choice of attire.
The 44-year-old French leader was photographed on Sunday walking in front of Westminster Hall with his wife Brigitte, where the late British sovereign was lying in state ahead of her funeral on Monday.

Macron and his wife were however seen in rather casual attires. Instead of his usual suit and formal black leather shoes, the French President was pictured looking unusually casual, wearing a pair of sunglasses and ,to the shock of some observers ,navy blue trainers.
The commentary on his footwear was also shared by Twitter and AFP News Agency. Along with the video of the President and his wife walking down the street, the caption read, “Trouble afoot? “French President Emmanuel Macron’s choice of footwear during his trip to London ahead of the Queen’s funeral caused an outpouring of commentary and disinformation online.”

After the footwear got so much attention, the French radio station RMC hosted a debate on Monday on whether the sight of streetwear on the President on such an occasion was “shocking”, with presenter Estelle Denis insisting there was “a dress code to respect”. The Le Figaro newspaper called them the “trainers of discord”.
Many people on the internet thought that the news agencies were making a big deal out of this very small episode.

However, some of the news agencies did clarify that the President and his wife in fact did not wear these casual shoes to the funeral. “No, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron did not pay their respects to the queen in trainers,” said an article from the national TF1 channel. By the time the French leader and his wife paid their respects in front of the coffin on Sunday, both had changed into more formal wear, with Macron in a black suit and black tie.
The couple wore formal outfits to attend the Queen’s funeral and pay their respects. They reached Westminster Abbey, where they arrived on a bus along with other leaders.
According to reports, the trainers in question are made by luxury French fashion brand J.M. Weston, according to Le Figaro, and sell for 570 euros ($570) a pair.
The Queen died on September 8 at Balmoral Castle, her summer home in the Scottish highlands. The former queen was 96.
