Re “No extremists” (Your Views, April 25): “Let’s consider ‘life.’” We have a political party that has based its number one issue on a woman’s so-called “right” to an abortion without ever mentioning a responsibility to not get pregnant in the first place. That same party believes it’s OK to have children you are unable to support, financially or emotionally, because the government will take over that responsibility for you.
And “liberty”? The writer mentions “woke” culture. The woke people, on the progressive side, actively use cancel culture to shun and discredit anyone who does not espouse their beliefs. This culture is actively enabled by the media. Even the president refers to anyone who does not agree with his far-left agenda as a MAGA Republican, insulting all of those center-right conservatives who genuinely dislike the direction our nation is heading.
The “pursuit of happiness”? The Democratic idea of happiness is to blame all your shortcomings on someone else and demand that the government make you whole by taking from those who actually earn their way in society. They preach that the rich should pay their “fair share” when something like 47% of American households pay no federal income tax. What is their “fair share”? We have devolved from a nation that celebrates individual accomplishment into a nation that requires equity regardless of ability. When we should be stressing merit-based accomplishment, we treat diversity, equity and inclusion as the be-all, end-all for every issue that comes up. I will continue to support Republican candidates, as long as that candidate is a true conservative and is not former President Donald Trump.

Re “Figure it out” (Your Views, April 26): The writer is trying to use misinformation to cloud the issue of gun violence in America. He states the Democrats had control of both house of Congress and the presidency and that they chose to not pass laws on gun control. It is true that the Democrats did have control of both houses and the presidency. But in the U.S. Senate you need 60 votes to end a filibuster. Democrats only had 50 votes then; they needed 10 Republicans to join them, which did not happen. It was the Republicans who blocked any kind of sensible gun control. The writer is offering up false arguments, taking advantage of people who are not fully informed. The writer then goes on to talk about the possible negatives of new gun control laws.
While trying in the beginning to make it appear he is in the middle on the issue, it seems to be a new disinformation line. I heard Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire say the same thing recently. Anywhere from 85%-94% of the public is in favor of universal background checks.
I am not a Republican nor a Democrat. I would prefer an accurate discussion.

This is why I would die for my country: to preserve our ideals, our government, our Constitution, our right to freedom and expression without fear of political reprisals, and to honor those who died to give us those freedoms.
This is why I would not die for my country: to preserve and protect a government and political party that is using the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice and IRS as political operatives; ending our energy independence and giving our enemies funds to bury us; and is immediately going green or electric instead of implementing a plan that can be moved to gradually without wrecking our grid and the economy.
