‘Not to recommend it would be perverse’

There are plenty of good reasons not to recommend this podcast. For one thing, Alastair Campbell and his insufferable smugness. For another, co-host Rory Stewart who, for all his talk of bagpipes and a house near Crieff, is — like Campbell — about as Scottish as Kendal mint cake. Then there’s its popularity: launched last year, The Rest Is Politics raced straight to the top of the UK podcast charts and has sat there, or thereabouts, ever since. Saying you must listen to The Rest Is Politics is like saying you must watch Succession. You already know.
