Election Wizard posted a video on X (formally known as Twitter) on Sunday, showing Carlson digging into Abbott with his comments. The fired Fox News host suggested that Abbott could succeed in securing the border “in a week” if he lined up the National Guard along the southern border.

“How many Texans do you think are all on board with letting 7 million people cross into their state illegally?” Carlson asked. “What percentage? Zero. I don’t care what your race or national origin – nobody is for that. Has the governor of Texas done anything meaningful to stop it? No.”

Carlson went on to say that Abbott refuses to commit the action. He recalled that he suggested shooting migrants at the border to Abbott at a private cocktail party in Dallas last year. He recollected that told Abbott, “If someone’s trying to break into my house, it’s not complicated to repel the person.”

Reportedly at the cocktail party, Abbott told Carlson it was more “complicated” than that. However, Carlson called Abbott a “liar,” adding how he doesn’t want to shoot migrants because of his donors.

While Abbott isn’t ordering troopers to shoot migrants, he has been criticized for his actions at the border. In July, the Houston Chronicle reported how troopers were being ordered to push children and nursing babies back into the Rio Grande. A trooper told the publication unreported incidents have taken place, such as a pregnant woman having a miscarriage after being caught in the wire at the border.

On September 6, Federal District Judge David A. Ezra ruled that Texas must remove the string of buoys installed to deter migrants from crossing the Rio Grande. However, the next day, a federal appeals court granted Texas’ request to leave its floating barrier, according to the Texas Tribune.
