KAYSVILLE — Emergency crews responded to a Kaysville home after a truck crashed into it Monday morning while attempting to evade police.

“We woke to a literal bang and then followed by, seconds later, there (were) sirens, there (were) police at the door, knocking on the door, wanting to make sure … everybody was all right,” the homeowner told KSL.

He and his wife scrambled to see what the sound was and saw the truck inside their basement near 1150 South and 500 East. He said he saw two people inside the truck; one had an injured leg.

Police responded to a suspicious complaint in the area of 680 N. Main at 4:35 a.m. Monday.

“They saw a vehicle, with no license plates or headlights on, that was leaving the area. So, they attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle; however, the vehicle fled. We had a pursuit with the vehicle before it crashed into the house,” said Kaysville police spokeswoman Alexis Benson.

Officers later discovered that the truck that crashed into the house had been stolen, she said.

None of the people inside the house was injured, but Benson added that the two male occupants of the truck were transported to a hospital. Both were stable.

One man was seen being handcuffed and loaded into an ambulance.

Benson also said the department got a call reporting a vehicle burglary in the area where the truck initially fled from.

“We believe that the individuals that fled in the vehicle were involved in the vehicle burglary that took place in that area,” she said.
