Santa Rosa Junior College’s newest student club, the Comedy Club, will be hosting an open mic comedy night at 8:30 p.m. May 22 in the Polly O’Meara Doyle Hall Dormitory.

For co-presidents, Logan Cheriff and Will Mosier, it’s bigger than just an event. Cheriff, who transferred to SRJC from Western Washington University, is hoping that this event is a catalyst for other clubs to follow in their footsteps.

“The aim is to encourage clubs to put on more student events and make SRJC a more lively college,” he said. “This is the first step in the hopes that one of the best community colleges in the state can hold its own against the four-years.”

Cheriff asks that sets are limited to five minutes and that performers only do standup. Sign ups will be on-site, opening at 8 p.m. The event will go for as long as it has acts, with a cutoff time of 10:30 p.m.

Cheriff hopes that this event encourages students to try something new. “Everybody can do stand-up comedy,” he said. “The JC doesn’t just have to be a stepping stone. We’re here for at least two years, so we should be able to enjoy ourselves.”

The club will hold the event in the common room on the first floor of the dorm.

“Come by, we’ll do our best to make you laugh,” Cheriff said.
