8th Drappo dei Rioni: Tolfa event on 6 September

The 8th Drappo dei Rioni returns to Tolfa, celebrating the town’s equestrian traditions. The event is supported by the municipality and organised by the Pro Loco association, the Università Agraria and the seven district committees with the help of many volunteers.
Schedule and parade
The morning programme features the traditional parade of the seven district teams through the historic centre, ending with an homage in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in front of the town hall.
- 09:15 – Parade starts with 12 standard-bearers, drummers, flag-wavers and a mascot on a pony.
- 10:00 – Ring Joust (Giostra degli Anelli) begins at Pista Viale d’Italia.
The seven districts (Rocca, Poggiarello, Cappuccini, Lizzera, Sughera, Casalaccio, Battaglione) field teams of six riders each, 42 competitors in total, spanning multiple generations from 1961 to the youngest rider born in 2013.
Race format and awards
Racing consists of six heats where riders compete for the best time and for ring captures. The heats determine the winning district team and select the top six riders who will compete in a special heat for the title of Best Rider/Rider 2026 and the Golden Cup.
The winning district will receive the specially painted drappo by artist Mariangela Arcangeli on the theme “Echoes of Glory – memory rediscovered with the Giostra of Santa Cristina”. Silver and Bronze Cups are awarded to second and third placed teams.
