Severe storms caused damage throughout the region overnight.
And, in Mantua Township, New Jersey, the damage was so prevalent that, early Wednesday, officials canceled schools because of power outages and downed trees along roadways.
In a statement, officials in Mantua Township, New Jersey, said that the overnight thunderstorm caused multiple trees to fall throughout the community and downed electrical wires.
In fact, in a social post overnight, the Mantua Township Police Department alerted residents to avoid traveling in the community because roads could be blocked by fallen trees.
NBC10’s cameras found trees down along Main Street, Martel Street, Summit Avenue, Mantua Boulevard and Washington Avenue during the course of Wednesday morning.
Overnight, several roadways were closed due to storm damage, including:
- Bridgeton Pike between Mantua Boulevard and Mount Royal Road
- Berkley Road between Bridgeton Pike and Harrison Avenue
- Multiple side streets were also closed in residential neighborhoods
In Wilmington, Delaware, NBC10’s cameras found trees downed along Maryland Avenue at McGovern Terrace as well as along Maryland Avenue at Hillside Road.
Crews were working along Route 100 in Wilmington, Delaware to clear fallen trees on Wednesday morning, as well.
Also, because of the storm, thousands were without power throughout the region.
As of about 6 a.m. on Wednesday, PECO reported over 12,600 homes without power in the region.

Officials did not immediately say when power was expected to be returned for homes impacted by power outages due to the overnight storms.
As cleanups continued on Wednesday morning, NBC10’s First Alert Weather team was warning the community that another round of storms was likely late in the day through the early hours of Thursday, as well.
