WTF ‘Open Borders’? Stop using GOP talking points
Announcement

Kos is correct to identify the sadly usual infighting in DSA that replicates the history of postwar Democratic parties. However, having just watched several sequences where Rahm Emanuel attacked progressives like AOC, we need to address centrist foolishness. It’s policies, not migrants.

Emanuel parroted a GOPhascist ‘Open Borders’ talking point on MS Now, we should note how problematic the Democratic party has become with crucial elections looming. Odd is how he treats different audiences for this framing message and in this case to drive back to the center by demonizing one albeit small, but growing movement. While that kind of tacit support for reactionary thinking happens in trashing the DSA, the ankle monitors and shock gloves proliferate.

The Open Borders trope:

By using the term “open border,” conservatives are falsely suggesting that anyone can get into the U.S. without much hassle.

The borders are not open to irregular migration, and people should not make the dangerous journey.” The persistence of unauthorized crossing is a decades-old problem indicative of an outdated, broken system, NOT an open border. America can protect our borders with both order and justice.

An open border is a border that enables free movement of people and often of goods between jurisdictions with no restrictions on movement and is lacking a border control.

The pernicious myth of “open borders” – Trump is obsessed with a wild mischaracterization of the status quo that fuels extremism.

The rights-based case for open borders and the utilitarian case for open borders agree and complement one another.

While right-wing media’s “open borders” messaging has proven salient for stateside viewers, there’s also reason to believe that it’s impacting perceptions of the border abroad.

“They believe in defunding the police, letting prisoners out of prisons, opening the borders, eliminating the Pentagon,” former Barack Obama advisor and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said on Fox News

We grow tired of such triangulating.

We’ll get straight to the point: The financial hardships that Daily Kos is facing this year are tough.

We continue to be paywall-free. We continue to be supported by our readers, not billionaires or corporations. But we need to bring in more revenue. We are leaning on our community more than ever to help make ends meet.
