Woke then, Woke now, Woke forever
Let us not pretend we don’t know, woke, is a word born out of Black culture to counter injustices, to wake people up to what is happening right now with the rise of white supremacy all over the world. Trying to shift blame to wokeism for the failures of society is a new kind of low and I don’t care if you call it woke or woke 1.0.
Trying to shift blame to wokeism for laws and ideologies which predate the call for awareness and open-mindedness is a vile attempt to further denaturalize the word woke and it is also a dog whistle and racism at its finest.
Child marriage have existed since the dawn of time, how old was Mary? Laws, both for and against child marriages (child sexual abuse) have also been swinging on the pendulum, in several countries, since their inception. Trying to blame “woke” or calling it “woke 1.0” (as if they both don’t refer to the same thing and the same period in time) is racism, plain and simple. Woke has never validated child marriage no matter which culture it stems from. Woke has never defended any injustice or abuse of any culture.
Saying that woke 1.0 refers to “overbearing white liberals” (not my definition) is ridiculous, if one is refereeing to “white liberals” why not say “white liberals?” hmm? Are thou scared of the calling down the wrath of said white liberals on your head?
Why is it that words born of Black culture must be sullied and denigrated while those born of for lack of a better word white culture, must be reclaimed and fought for?. I cannot count the number of words Black folks have gestated and birthed to call attention to the centuries long suffering, oppression, abuses, injustices and needs, only to have them twisted and corrupted by their enemies, and worse dismissed and abandoned by their allies.
But, to come to a point where someone is now trying to link the word woke to child sexual abuse, blaming woke 1.0 as the reason why this practice cannot be done away with, because “woke created a structure where people are afraid to criticize other cultures” is the most disgusting and racist thing I’ve read on this forum.
I don’t know how many Black people use or read this forum, but for me it is fast becoming a struggle to stay on here, when blatant racism and periodical attacks whether overtly or subtly on the Black community or a member of the Black community go mainly unaddressed,
A bon entendeur, salut.
