Kimberley Historical Society to host talk on women’s history
Kimberley Historical Society’s October talk is “A Woman’s Lot: Women’s History in Nottinghamshire 1550 – 1950’s” by Chris Weir.
Chris has used a variety of contemporary sources, such as personal diaries, to recall the past experiences of local women, from being arrested as a Suffragette to “finding everything so totally French” during a visit to France.
The more modern records detail the impact of wars on women, including their drafting into agriculture and industry to do jobs traditionally the preserve of men.
Chris’ talk starts at 7.30pm on Thursday 1st October and it lasts about an hour. The venue is Kimberley School Community Room, accessed from the driveway to Kimberley Sports Centre. There is plenty of parking almost opposite. Visitors are welcome for a cost of £4 (cash) towards expenses.
