The latest UFO files released by the Pentagon, a possible encounter with Australia’s Bigfoot, and a creep dressed as the ‘Cat in the Hat’ who chased a Canadian teenager were among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.
The UFO phenomenon made headlines again this past week as the Pentagon released its sixth batch of files on the subject. As with previous drops, the tranche contained several videos showing unusual objects filmed during military operations over the past few years and dozens of documents centered around government efforts to get to the bottom of the mystery. To that end, earlier in the week, the Pentagon also announced that it had issued a “legal waiver” that would allow current and former military personnel with alleged insights on UFOs to share that information with the government, but not the media or the public.
This past week featured a rare report of an encounter with Australia’s version of Bigfoot, known as the Yowie. Recounting a camping trip from earlier this year, witness Belinda Kay described being pelted with stones and feeling like she was being watched during her visit to the remote location that, an Indigenous man told her, was home to the legendary cryptid. Her experience got weirder when she left some food in a large patch of grass that had been flattened seemingly by a sizeable creature and, to her astonishment, snapped a photo of what she believes was a Yowie’s arm snatching the snacks. After later being bowled over by a powerful stench often associated with creatures like Bigfoot, she left the bush certain that was what she encountered.
Like something out of a horror film, the already bizarre viral AI ‘Cat in the Hat’ trend spilled into the real world with an unsettling incident in Canada this past week. According to the West Kelowna RCMP in British Columbia, they received a report from a teenage girl who was chased by a troublemaker dressed as the iconic Dr. Seuss character. Fortunately, the young woman was able to evade the creep and made it home safely. That said, authorities are understandably concerned about what they believe to have been a misguided prank inspired by the viral trend and hope to unmask the miscreant who menaced the teen.
