David “Kochie” Koch has unleashed on social media over this year’s Logie Award nominations.

The ex-Sunrise host was left clearly unimpressed that his former show and its hosts were completely snubbed in the Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter and Best Current Affairs Program – despite Channel 9 rival Today attracting several nods.

Koch, 70, who was replaced by Matt Shirvington when he quit Seven’s breakfast program in 2023, shared screenshots of the nominations on his Instagram Story on Monday.

“Have the Logies become a participation award?” he furiously asked in the caption on the first.

“Once again ignoring the domination of breakfast by Sunrise.”

On the second slide, he added: “Now you are really taking the p**s. A program that has lost ratings for 20 consecutive years is nominated when Sunrise isn’t.”

Shirvington currently co-hosts Sunrise with Natalie Barr, while Today is hosted by Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo.

In a grid post shared to both Facebook and Instagram, Koch continued his tirade.

“So let me get this straight … Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter nominees for this year’s Logies contains both TODAY hosts but neither Sunrise hosts,” he wrote.

“A couple of facts you may have missed; Sunrise has won every single day this year. Sunrise is averaging 424,000 viewers daily (+4% you) while Today is averaging 308,000 (-3% yoy). “This has been going on for years. If you ever complain you’re seen as a bad sport.

“But now I’m out of it I can say TV WEEK Logie Awards 2026 … honestly WTF?”

In Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter category, Stefanovic and Abo were both nominated for their work on Today, and will be up against Nine colleague Ally Langdon, ABC’s David Speers and Sarah Ferguson, and Seven’s Michael Usher.

60 Minutes, 7.30, A Current Affair, Australian Story, Four Corners and Today are all nominated for Best Current Affairs Program.

Robert Irwin will host this year’s Logies for the first time, with the big event taking place at The Star Sydney on Sunday, August 16.

Koch’s resignation from Sunrise three years ago marked the end of an era for the show, which saw him at the desk for more than 20 years alongside Melissa Doyle, Samantha Armytage and, in his final years, Barr.

Announcing his decision on air in May 2023, he became emotional as he told viewers he had “a bit of news”.

“16,000 hours of TV, it is now time to work in business hours and have a bit of flexibility to focus more on our big family and the family business. And frankly, my football club as well (Koch is Chairman of the Port Adelaide Football Club),” Koch said.

“So after 20 consecutive premierships in the breakfast TV ratings game, I’m frankly finding it harder to get off the ground to take those marks and I think it’s time to bring in the next generation.”

“ … I have loved every single minute of my time at Sunrise, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the last 21 years.”
