Friends have paid tribute to 37 year old Sarah Megan Brown, who was found dead at a property in Edgeware, Christchurch, on Wednesday.
Police confirmed Brown’s identity on Thursday. A 52 year old man has been charged with her murder.
Her friend Christine told chrislynchmedia.com she was devastated by Brown’s death.
“She was honestly the most intelligent woman I’ve ever met. She was so smart, and so funny. So much potential. I’m absolutely devastated.”
Her friend Wendy Mercer also shared a tribute.
“Megan… you were such a beautiful and vibrant soul. Over many years of knowing you I witnessed your journey through life and admired your strength, resilience and deep insight through much hardship. You always had a special place in my heart, like a little sister.”
“You were colourful and complex in so many ways. Highly intelligent and articulate, artistically gifted, adventurous, sensitive, deeply compassionate for all beings and the planet, neurodivergent, quirky, deeply spiritual and very generous.
“You had the most dry, witty and very clever sense of humour that could have me keeling over with laughter. You had a gorgeous sense of style and always were impeccably dressed.
“You had a love for the fine arts and such a refined personal taste. You had a passion for gardening and a deep respect for nature.
“You fiercely loved those closed to you with a true loyalty. You had an intrinsic sense of social justice and honour. You didnt suffer fools and would stick up for those disadvantaged with your courage and earned wisdom.
“You indeed lived life to the fullest. It wasn’t an easy path for you but it mean’t you really understood others way beyond the superficial and had great empathy for helping anyone who needed it. You really were one of a kind that will be missed by all who love you.
“Many years ago, out of your kind heart, you unexpectedly gifted me a piece of your original art that you had especially painted for me, as a surprise. It touched my heart. You captured the essence of the dance in your painting. It will always be treasured.”
“Farewell on your journey Megan. You are held in love and peace. Moe mai rā i roto i te rangimārie. Haere, haere, haere atu rā.”
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said police were called to a Purchas Street property just before 6am on Wednesday 30 September, where Brown was found dead.
The man was taken into custody at the scene, and a murder charge was laid overnight.
He was remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Christchurch District Court on 16 October.
Police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
