AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND—Holding hands in a circle as candles flickered and water glasses trembled, employees of film discovery platform Letterboxd reportedly held a séance Friday to ask James Dean his four favorite movies. “Spirit of Mr. Dean, we’ve got the cameras rolling for our socials here, and we summon you to share your top film picks with our followers,” Letterboxd CEO Matthew Buchanan chanted in an attempt to summon the long-deceased Hollywood icon, explaining that he didn’t want Dean to be excluded from the company’s viral “Four Favorites” interview series just because he had been dead since 1955. “Are Autumn Sonata and The Godfather on your list, or are you one of those guys who chooses Superbad to show that you’re down to earth? Answer us, spirit! You can tell us through the Ouija board, or give us a sign by rattling the cases of any DVDs and Blu-rays you like. Come on, Jimmy, the cinephiles want to know!” At press time, sources confirmed Letterboxd employees had let out a collective gasp as a disembodied voice suddenly croaked, “I prefer TV shows.”
