After a study found that hate against South Asians has surged by 240% over the past two years, Indian-American lawmaker Raja Krishnamoorthi slammed President Donald Trump for driving the racism in the country and flagged his endorsement of White supremacists.

Hate speech against South Asians rose by 240 per cent between January 2024 and June 2026 and surged exponentially after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election on the back of the White supremacist and anti-immigrant platform, according to a study by Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH).

Sharing the study, Indian-American lawmaker Raja Krishnamoorthi slammed Trump for driving the hate speech by presiding over systematic racism in his administration as well as the Maga movement.

“The 240 per cent surge in monthly anti-South Asian hate on X did not come out of nowhere. We have watched politicians demonise South Asians over something as ordinary as attending a college football game and the Trump administration traffic in racist stereotypes targeting people named Singh,” said Krishnamoorthi in a reference to a Texas Republicans tirade against brown people and a racist poster used by the administration.

“Americans of every background, and leaders of both parties, need to speak out against racism and xenophobia wherever they appear. South Asian Americans are as much a part of the fabric of America as anyone else, and no amount of hate can erase the contributions we have made to this country,” Krishnamoorthi further said.

Trump drives South Asia hate with Maga’s racism

In his second term, Trump has personally shared racist content targeting Indians, and the Maga movement has targeted Indian and South Asian cultural activities, such as the celebration of Hindu festivals and construction of temples, to accuse the community of trying to overrun the country.

More from United States

“Posts portraying South Asians as invaders, job thieves, and a demographic threat made up 45 per cent of anti-South Asian hate on X, with H-1B visas and immigration serving as major drivers. These narratives also included Great Replacement and ‘remigration’ rhetoric, while on fringe platforms they also overlapped with antisemitic conspiracy theories,” the COSH study noted.

Data shows that Trump’s election caused an exponential rise in hate speech against South Asians — see the table below to see that it continues to rise.

The study noted that anti-South Asian hate has risen sharply across X and fringe platforms like 4Chan and Gab as over half a million hateful posts appeared on X between Trump assuming the office in January 2025 and June 2026, with monthly volume growing 75 per cent over during the period.

Broadly, the hate speech rose 240 per cent since January 2024 as Trump became the frontrunner for the Republican nomination.

“Slurs and dehumanization pervade every platform. The slur ‘pajeet’ and its variants appeared in 30 per cent of all posts on X and 45 per cent of mentions on fringe platforms. Hygiene-based dehumanisation grew fastest of all narratives on X, rising 171 per cent. Posts attacked Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim religious practices, called for temples to be destroyed, and turned UK grooming-gang cases into a smear against all Pakistanis and South Asians,” the study noted.
