(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The Woman’s Club of Cambridge is inviting people to celebrate women’s history throughout the rest of the summer.

Local leaders came together with the women’s club to officially cut the ribbon on the club’s new Hall of Women’s History Wednesday.

The project details women’s history from the suffrage movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries through the 1970s.

Woman’s club president, Ruth Clendaniel says a major project like this has been in the works for a couple of years.

Ruth tells WMDT, “You can feel it in the air. I know all around us, but like many people have mentioned, this is a reality now of us working on this for a couple years, to bring history alive.”

The Woman’s Club got to celebrate even further as the opening of the Hall of Women’s History not only brought in new members, but gave longtime community a members a glimpse of a club that’s been in the heart of Dorchester County for over 100 years.

Woman’s Club VP, Marianne Maye says, “It’s so exciting when people come in the door and they say, wow, not only are they seeing a historical, exhibit through time, they’re able to walk through and learn and hear music and, read stories about things that they didn’t know happened or what the impact of women were locally and their community.”
