In the mother of all M Night Shyamalan twists, Marjorie Taylor Greene dramatically cut ties with Tr*mp and his MAGA movement last November. It was the high-profile resignation heard round the world, a move that left both Greene’s fans and detractors stunned at the reversal.

According to the former congresswoman , Tr*mp’s abandonment of his America First campaign stance combined with his refusal to address his role in the Epstein files created a rift between Greene and her former MAGA hero.

Since Greene’s about-face, several other prominent Republican voices have distanced themselves from Tr*mp and MAGA. Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie started to make noise earlier this year after losing his primary to his Tr*mp-endorsed challenger: since then, the Epstein Files Transparency Act co-author keeps coming at Tr*mp hard, doing some key damage to the Republican lock on the House. This May, Massie and his wife joined Greene and her husband on vacation in Costa Rica, where the two reportedly found common ground in their hatred of Tr*mp.

Now, Massie, Greene, and other anti-Tr*mp Republicans are promising to launch a “new movement” to challenge MAGA this November. We don’t really know what it’s about, and we certainly can’t trust anything having to do with the prolifically anti-LGBTQ+ Greene. But definitely color us intrigued.

It’s possible that MTG and her allies are simply reading the room. We’re increasingly seeing Tr*mp-backed Republicans fall in the polls, and at this point, even staunch MAGAites are getting fed up with his schtick. But what, exactly, is Greene’s schtick?

According to Politico, she, Massie, and other anti-MAGA conservatives are trying out a populist third-party bid, possibly to be headed up by fellow ex-Tr*mper Tucker Carlson. In a recent video, Greene even sits down with other Americans disillusioned with the status quo.

“Both parties have failed us,” she says.

In the clip, Greene latches on to talking points we’re used to seeing from alternative parties on the left. Appealing to voters who don’t want to choose the “lesser of two evils,” Greene explains that not voting is always an option. But something tells us that’s not what she’s actually advocating for. Greene and her followers seem to be floating the idea of a third party on the right, which could come with complicated consequences of its own.

I’ve Had It truth teller Jennifer Welch, as usual, sees right through the BS. “If Democrats don’t tune in to what’s next after MAGA,” Welch warns, “we’re gonna get our asses beat again.” Welch sees Greene’s new grift as just that: another way to confuse voters into signing on to the same agenda under a fresh rebrand. Because let’s not forget that Greene is responsible for some of the harshest anti-trans legislation out there, as well as likening LGBTQ+ history taught in schools to “mental/emotional child abuse.”

“They are going to do an America First platform,” Welch predicts. “It’s gonna hit hard in fly-over states.”

Greene, like many Republicans, knows that there’s a “post-Tr*mp future” looming, and she wants to be at the head of it. But by creating another party on the ballot, she could soon learn what Democrats have known for a long time now thanks to spoiler candidates like Jill Stein: third parties tend to do nothing but create protest votes that take away the main party’s chances of winning. They never actually win themselves.

Then again, maybe that’s what Greene is counting on. And if Greene’s ticket can tempt anti-Tr*mp Republicans enough, it could spell disaster for the GOP at the polls.

Again, we don’t know. But it’s definitely an interesting, messy new reality show on our radar, and we have every intention of tuning in.
