LLWS Has Been Accused Of ‘Hypocritical’ Criticism Of Sports Gambling

The Little League World Series spoke out this week in opposition to sports gambling taking place at the 2026 tournament.

The 20-team, youth baseball classic began in Williamsport, Pennsylvania this week. Some sportsbooks are allowing betting on the 2026 Little League World Series, sparking backlash online.

The Little League World Series is among those to have spoken out against sports gambling on events featuring youth athletes.

“Little League International stands by its statement first issued last year that there is no place for betting on Little League games and players or any youth sports competition. Little League is a trusted place where children are learning the fundamentals of the games and all the important life lessons that come with having fun, celebrating teamwork, and playing with integrity, and no one should be exploiting the success and failures of children playing the game they love for their own personal gain,” Little League shared.

But some are accusing Little League of being hypocritical.

After all, the statement comes with a “Presented by T-Mobile” line. And the games air nationally on ESPN in a major TV rights deal.

Little League accused of hypocritical criticism

Fans find it hypocritical for Little League to criticize sports gambling while promoting other advertisements.

“It’s kind of funny that a couple tweets betonline’s PR account made little league tweet this out. But I’ll go a step farther if you don’t think betting should be allowed on Little League it shouldn’t be broadcast on ESPN either,” one fan wrote.

“‘No one should be exploiting the success and failures of children playing the game they love for their own personal gain.’ Such as televising games on ESPN?” one critic stated on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Others, meanwhile, stand by the Little League World Series speaking out against sports gambling on youth sports events.

“If you are betting on little league games you are a degenerate gambling addict and need help. Also you are a scumbag. That is all,” one critic stated.
